The clocker times each race and workout to ensure the race is run in a timely fashion. The closer the race, the more horses tend to run in the later stages of the race.
MUZZLE
White Muzzle was a bay horse bred at Airlie Stud with a white blaze covering his muzzle. He won the G1 Derby Italiano at Capannelle in 1993, then went on to race for trainer Peter Chapple-Hyam. He won every race he ran, including a G2 in Deauville. The horse’s success also led to several other wins, including the Group 2 of the same name in 1995.
NAVICULAR DISEASE
A horse suffering from navicular disease during a race is unlikely to experience lameness in the front foot. It is usually bilateral and may be caused by a variety of factors, including trauma to the bone or interference with blood supply. As such, it should never be dismissed as a possible cause of lameness. Although the symptoms of navigcular disease are often asymptomatic, it is important to consult a veterinarian if your horse appears lame. A vet can also order MRI or CT scans to determine the condition and treat the disease if necessary.
